An early iteration of version 3.0 of Apple’s iPhone operating system software will be thrust into the spotlight during a media event on Tuesday, March 17, during which the Cupertino-based titan will also showcase a new range of development tools for the creation of programs on the official Apple App Store.
Although Apple has not yet provided in-depth detail regarding exactly what v3.0 will deliver for iPhone users, reports suggests the overhauled software will provide a selection of new features designed to make the iconic smartphone even more appealing to prospective Apple consumers.
Some of the additions rumoured to be crammed into the new operating system include push e-mail notification, cut-paste, turn-by-turn GPS, and a universal search capability that allows users to easily find contacts and other personal data stored within the handset’s memory.
Any improvements will likely add a timely rose tint to Apple’s touch-screen device, which, despite carving itself a significant slice of the smartphone market, could be facing a dip in retail activity after market research specialist IDC reduced its smartphone sales growth projections for 2009 from 8.7 percent to 3.4 percent.
Apple’s strictly invitation-only v3.0 preview will take place at Apple’s Town Hall in Cupertino at 10:00AM (PST) on March 17.
