With the likes of Apple’s iTunes Store, Microsoft’s Xbox Live and Netflix all actively expanding digital distribution with a mix of movie rentals and purchases via download and streaming, gadget heavyweight Samsung Mobile is making a move to haul itself aboard the thundering bandwagon.

More pointedly, anyone equipped with a compatible Samsung-branded mobile phone, personal computer or notebook system can now enjoy access to around 500 popular movies by simply paying a visit to the aptly titled Web site samsungmovies.com.
According to Samsung, its new film and television service is supported via major content deals with entertainment giants including Momentum Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Universal and Warner Brothers.
Some of the more recent titles Samsung hopes will successfully attract movie lovers include 2008 summer blockbuster The Dark Knight, Iron Man and Tropic Thunder, along with classics such as The Italian Job, Bonnie and Clyde and The Ten Commandments.
The service also provides access to episodes from hugely popular TV shows such as ER and Friends and expects to carry more than 1,000 movie titles by the summer.
Prices start at 2.49 GBP for a 24-hour rental and 4.99 GBP for a full purchase. And, as added incentive, Samsung also gives its customers a free mobile device copy of any paid content.
