What a load, ABC is not going to dig for the truth and even if they found the truth they know they cannot report it, UFO's are off limits to the mainstream press. By saying the experimental planes produced light flashes that some interpreted as alien spaceships and this was considered helpful by the team in covering their activities is a huge load of you know what, can he really say that there are Alien's?, of course not.
If this worked on radar he would have no idea what others worked on at area 51, unless he wants to tell us he knew everything that went on at the base....
Sorry ABC, you still suck at reporting the truth about Aliens and UFO's and you no it!!!!!!!

I have been looking at the Picture of the ' UFO ?. and have used Colour contrasts to check for irregularities. In my opinion for what it is worth,, ( it looks like a Metal sink Plug, a disk with a central looped chain holder.

I may be wrong.

They headline of this makes me suspicious, since a quick glance could leave an impression that 'UFO's are not real' or Area 51 'is not a secret UFO base' Just as there is no evidence that there are UFO's there (althought there are spectacular witness accounts) or that they do not exist there. There is no physical evidence either way. This guy might have limited access (need to know) and no have access to those areas. He could also be a schill. He could be telling the truth.

The only way to prove something is scientific evidence. There are no official scientific research efforts on UFO's at all (except for poorly funded small groups not affiliated wtih the government), and that has to make any rational mind suspicious. The importance of this subjects merits scientific research, and full government disclosure.

More than One years ago I made a great discovery that AFOs live in our Earth's atmosphere at altittude 20-40 miles. This discovery is ten steps ahead than the recognition of UFOs existence. For this reason this fact rejected not only by goverments but by Ufologist as well, including MUFON organization. It's investigator who took my case asked me to send her photos of AFOs that I described in my article. I said I don't have ones, because it is impossible to do that according to 'UFO Spotting & Recording Tips
Photographing UFOS' site (see my article). Instead of photos I offered her to come to my place or I will come to her place that is 60-70 miles from her house, and show her their existence. She rejected this offer on the base that she looked at the night sky and did not see anything close that described in my article. I tried to explain her that the great discoveries are made by scientists not by ordinary people. For example for hundreds years people thought that the Earth is the center of universe and sun revolves around the Earth, because people see every day Sun rise and Sun set and it tooks a great mind of Copernik to say people that they are wrong. She brought another arguments to prove that I am wrong by saing : 'It is my belief that what you are actually seeing is what we call and 'Aberration of light' where by you stare at 'light' or 'object' like a star in the sky and after a while it appears that is is moving. I have seen this many, many times while looking up at the sky, even in the daylight. When you do see this in the day, it usually is the refraction of light from a planet which at times can be visible in the daylight hours if the opportunity permits.' I agree that 'Aberration of light' exists but there are events (like in my case) that looks like 'Aberration of light' but in reality they are completley different. I see the movement not one star but the cluster of stars (signal lights) that forms the circle (the contour of UFO). What is more they can change speed from 0 to 100 mile per second and more. The AFOs even respond to me by going zig-zag if I wave my hand to them etc. The point is that I see intelegent moves of Aliens motherships. I hope that MUFON's investigator eventually stop by at my house to verify the existence of AFO. sites.google.com/site/socialcapital1/Home/aliens

It is an unidentified flying object(UFO)until it is an identified flying object (IFO). Therefore they were UFOs

For me it is not UFO but AFO (Aliens Flying Object). I try to be more specific.

It hardly answers any question at all. Of course the government has secret planes, no big surprise. That does not exclude all UFO's as false. Why are they flying their secret planes over Phoenix or Stephenville Texas with all the lights flashing, isn't it a SECRET aircraft? Makes no sense. Also , the million dollar question is, if UFO's are not real, why does the government classify the documents related to them , think about it.. It is real.

These manmade flying objects do not dismiss UFOs that stop on a dime or go away in a eye blink like many witness reported. New information about area 51 is silent on this.

This article on Area 51 appeared initially on L.A. Times (April 5, 2009) but apparently has created a lot of misunderstandings about the base and only tells half of the story.

The article only addresses half of the story about Area 51, i.e., the significance of the base during the Cold War era.
Yes, we must not neglect the past and the sacrifices that our hard-working engineers and pilots made in order to maintain our technological superiority during those epoch.

As excellently written as it was, the article neglects to address the contemporary significance of the expanding complex at Groom Lake.

Today (as everyone knows by now) it is obvious from recent satellite imagery and other sources that Area 51 is expanding. There is a humongous new hangar which had been under construction at the South Ramp since 2007.
Not only has there been constructions of new water towers, more storage buildings, newer and shorter runways and taxiways but also what appears to be a significant, multi-functional tall tower which is clearly visible through satellite imagery.
There is no doubt that newer generations of remotely-controlled platforms (UAVs and UCAVs) are being tested, in addition to new generations of stealth technologies and other innovative programs.
Newer radar technologies and their applications are also becoming more diversified and important as ever at Area 51.
All of these information has been available on the Internet.
It is common knowledge that the U.S. government admitted the existence of this base just a few years ago, i.e., that an operating base exists at Groom Lake in Nevada.
Furthermore, the U.S. government began to compensate the former workers at Area 51 who had become ill due to their contact with toxic chemical substances while working on the stealth programs from the late 1980s to the mid 1990s. The compensation program was initiated about a year and a half ago through the Department of Energy (D.O.E.)

Also, the government had stopped burning toxic chemical substances in the open pits of the desert at Area 51 after the public had scrutinized the base through the use of satellite imagery such as google earth.
These all were the results of the public's successful scrutiny of the base and because of the persistent investigations by various oversight groups made up of U.S. citizens, groups such as the Federation of American Scientists (FAS).

As far as the very near future programs at Area 51 is concerned, there is a very interesting item relating to ISIS (Integrated Sensor is the Structure), a topic which has been discussed recently among many aerospace watchers. Its possible relevance to Area 51 may become apparent and it involves Pentagon's initial phase of a large-scale deployment of triangular shaped Blimps that integrates radar technologies to monitor all activities, military or civilian on ground and covers the entire U.S.

These are the issues that are more contemporary and important when speaking about the role of Area 51.
