Although believed to be on a six-month bout of medical leave running until June, iconic Apple chief executive Steve Jobs is reportedly already influencing the tiller of the Cupertino-based technology giant, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

Referencing sources “familiar with the matter,” the report claims that while chief operating officer Tim Cook remains in control of day-to-day operational matters at Apple, Jobs is providing valuable contributions into the development of various strategies and products while working from home.
“[Jobs] regularly reviews products and product plans,” outlines the WSJ, “and [he] was particularly involved in the user interface of the new iPhone operating system that Apple unveiled last month…”
Along with offering his ongoing input into the ever-evolving iPhone smartphone, which is expected to be refreshed with a third-generation model in the summer, the unnamed sources also say Jobs is remaining busy with the development of an Apple-branded Tablet or Netbook-sized portable computer.
The rumoured continuation of the Apple co-founder’s professional activities rings true alongside a statement made by Jobs when his medical sabbatical was announced at the turn of the year – when he said out-of-office input would still be given on major strategic decisions.
Despite successfully battling through a rare form of pancreatic cancer in 2004, concerns were raised over the health of Jobs when he appeared at various Apple events in 2008 looking drawn and gaunt.
Following waves of associated speculation, Jobs announced in early January that he would be taking a six-month break from helming Apple in order to treat a hormone imbalance believed to be responsible for his persistent ill health.
