While there’s little denying the phenomenal retail longevity attributed to Apple’s iconic iPod brand, every consumer electronic device has a limit to its appeal. As far as The Tech Herald is concerned, the iPod hit that limit today with the introduction of the distinctly purple Prince Opus iPod Touch.
How much! Image: Kraken Opus.
Looking to cash in on the combined attraction of the iPod Touch’s versatility and the sprawling fan base of pop warbler Prince, the aptly named Prince Opus edition is being offered up in a limited run of 950 units by UK publishing company Kraken Opus for the princely sum (yukyuk) of $2,100 USD each.
You read that right – just one of these is going to cost you more than two thousand dollars.
In a gesture of pricing justification, the Prince Opus iPod Touch also comes preloaded with an the ‘Indigo Nights’ live album, along with an 40-minute movie containing exclusive footage from the princely one’s ‘21 Nights’ tour in London (cough – two years ago).
Purse strings still drawn tight? Then prepared to have them loosened by the inclusion of the exclusive ‘Prince 21 Nights Opus’ tome, which is a lush and opulent (and exclusive) portrayal of the ‘21 Nights’ tour captured by photographer Randee St. Nicholas and padded out by lyrics and poetry from the hand of his royal highness himself.
No? All these ‘exclusives’ we’re banding around still doing nothing for you?
Well, you may find this to be somewhat surprising (we did) but Kraken Opus founder and former derivatives trader Karl Fowler has told The Wall Street Journal that more than 300 units of the Prince Opus have already been sold a matter of days after the unit was launched.
If the prospect of a limited edition Prince Opus iPod Touch bundle fails to ignite your fires of blind obsession, then Kraken Opus is planning to take another shot at your will power – specifically those of you who fanatically follow Formula 1.
Specifically, September will see the wallets of devoted Ferrari fans tested by the unveiling of a Ferrari Opus that will come complete with a GPS-enabled special edition Apple iPod.
Kraken Opus has not yet assigned its upcoming Ferrari bundle with an official price but, given the hefty prices attached to existing tomes dedicated to football legend Maradona ($4,475 USD) and fashion designer Vivienne Westwood ($2,088 USD), it’s likely to be similarly steep.
