When it comes to performing a data backup, lesser-informed computer users might be forgiven for innocently cradling their hardware and walking slowly backwards through the house… while issuing a cautionary beeping noise.

However, discerning and tech-savvy computer owners are much more likely to link backing up data with handy external devices that deliver peace of mind and a comprehensively secure and protected computing environment.
Take the new Seagate Replica for example, which has been designed specifically to protect all forms of digital content while removing any pressures from the user when it comes manually learning, managing, or dedicating any of their precious time to the backup process itself.
Moreover, the Replica automatically and continuously stores up-to-date copies of everything on a PC (or multiple PCs), including installed applications, operating systems, e-mail, pictures, music, movies, Internet bookmarks and user preference settings.
“While people continue to amass digital content, many still don’t understand the importance of backing up their libraries of personal memories, or they don’t take the time,” commented Terry Cunningham, senior vice president of Seagate Branded Solutions.
“Our goal is to deliver solutions that provide thorough backup protection yet are easy to use, time-efficient and simple to understand,” he added, “and the Seagate Replica is about as easy as it gets.”
According to research conducted by Parks Associates, around one third of computer owners still do not backup their data, and those that do only backup rarely due to the labour-intensive task of burning content to disc or dragging and dropping a myriad files into a freestanding external drive.
In pushing the worth of its Replica solution, storage specialist Seagate is keen to note that the device eliminates such effort and requires no lengthy installation or drag-and-drop management. The Replica functions by simply plugging into the host system, at which point the user clicks ‘OK’ on the included software license, and the entire PC is automatically backed up to the waiting device.
And, once installed and operating, the Replica remains active in the background, performing continuous and complete backups so the host computer is never left vulnerable between backup events “as it would be with scheduled software” and associated storage devices.
The Seagate Replica backup system is due to hit retailers this coming May, and the price for its assured data protection starts at $130 USD for a single-PC version and stretches to $200 USD for a system capable of handling the data of two or more PCs.
