A few weeks ago, we here at The Tech Herald countered our mop-haired enthusiasm for The Beatles: Rock Band with the disappointing news that its premium game bundle would only include a microphone, a Ludwig-branded drum controller and a replica of Paul McCartney’s iconic Hofner bass guitar. Evidently, replica instruments for budding Johns and Georges had been mysteriously overlooked.
How very apt. Image: Tea Brito/Flickr.
While the inclusion of an actual replica drum kit is, of course, moot when it comes to bemoaning the instrument bundle, ignoring the band’s two most creative influences and their respective weapons of choice was surely a gaming crime on the part of developer Harmonix and publisher Electronic Arts.
More likely part of a cunning plan to separate gaming Beatles fans from their hard-earned cash… because today sees the official confirmation of freestanding replica John Lennon and George Harrison guitar packs, each carrying a bank-busting price tag of $100 USD.
With the limited edition premium bundle of The Beatles: Rock Band already lugging around a price of $250 USD, an extra $200 USD to secure wireless versions of Lennon’s famous Rickenbacker 325 and Harrison’s scrumptious Gretsch Duo Jet means only the most dedicated and affluent of gamers are going to re-create the entire legendary band in their living rooms.
That being said – and as much as we’re fighting the urge – that Gretsch Duo Jet really is calling out to us. Must. Fight. Temptation.
The representative plastic axes for John Lennon and George Harrison are now officially available for pre-order through the Harmonix Web site and will hit retail alongside The Beatles: Rock Band on September 09.
