The Vancouver-based industry startup has a staff of 50 and includes former executives from EA Canada and Distinctive Software. It has also spent the last year developing an exclusive (but as-yet undisclosed) videogame title for Microsoft’s popular Xbox 360 gaming and multimedia platform.
Founded in 2007 and boasting development experience gathered through leading Electronic Arts franchises such as FIFA Soccer and Need for Speed, BigPark will be officially absorbed by Microsoft Game Studios once the acquisition has been completed.
“We believe BigPark has tremendous potential to create new properties and innovative gaming experiences for our platforms, one of which we’re looking forward to showcasing at the E3 Expo in June,” enthused Microsoft Game Studios boss Phil Spencer in an official statement.
It’s worth noting that the association between BigPark and Microsoft runs deeper than its current software cooperative, with Don Mattrick, a senior VP with Microsoft’s interactive entertainment division, serving as one of the founding members of the Canadian studio.
