While the new features included within Mozilla’s upcoming Firefox 3.5 will, of course, be the main focus when assessment is duly issued for the revamped Internet browser, the open-source proponent is also looking to sprinkle a little aesthetic fairy dust on its platform via a tweaked and refreshed logo.
Nice... but will anyone really care? Image: Mozilla Corp.
Clearly resisting the temptation to adopt the popular but inappropriate ‘kitten around a boob’ image that returns high on any Google search for the Firefox logo, Mozilla Corporation has offered up an initial revised draft rendering of its existing ‘fox around a globe’ logo for user consideration and said it will continue adding further revisions every 24 hours or so.
Writing on the User Experience Design blog, Alex Faaborg notes that as the full release of Firefox 3.5 edges ever closer, Mozilla thought it “might be a good time to update and evolve the Firefox application icon.”
Keeping Firefox users abreast (cough) of artistic developments, Faaborg has said creative briefs and draft artwork will be posted to the blog on an ongoing basis, and he will also strive to highlight some of the feedback Mozilla receives from its community regarding the logo alterations.
Beyond the minor boost that a new Firefox logo may – or may not – inspire in curious Web users, version 3.5 of the popular browser will deliver HMTL5 audio and video, downloadable fonts, geolocation, and increase JavaScript performance by up to four times when compared to Firefox 3, and 10 times more when compared to Firefox 2.
