Successfully acquired by Systemax Inc., owner of both TigerDirect and CompUSA, the Circuit City online store has returned from the Internet grave this week following the quick turnaround of its official re-launch.

Described as offering low everyday prices and great deals, a wide selection of products, fast shipping, 24/7 customer service, advanced search capabilities, and enhanced content including photo galleries and thousands of product videos, www.CircuitCity.com has been reborn with a view to attending to the online needs of the electronic retailer’s customer base.
“This acquisition and quick launch of the all new CircuitCity.com further solidifies Systemax’s position as a leader in online retailing of value-priced, branded computers and consumer electronics,” trumpeted Systemax chairman and CEO Richard Leeds in an official release.
“Circuit City is one of the iconic brands in U.S. electronic retailing with a 60-year legacy,” added Leeds. “With the longstanding leadership of our TigerDirect.com business and growing contribution of our CompUSA business acquired last year, we think Systemax is uniquely positioned to best carry forward the great Circuit City brand in the online space.”
Systemax completed the $14 million USD purchase of Circuit City’s e-commerce business on May 19. Its acquisition deal included a share of future revenues created utilising associated assets over a 30-month period from confirmation – with a minimum of $3 million USD guaranteed.
While not carrying the same online muscle as the likes of Amazon, the customer popularity of TigerDirect and CompUSA has seen Systemax named by Internet Retailer as the 21st biggest online retail company of 2009 in its annual Top 500 guide.
