With the HP Mini 1151NR already finding critical favour with The Tech Herald’s very own Steve Ragan, we thought it only right and proper to extend Hewlett-Packard a little more love by spotlighting not one, but three new additions to its growing Netbook portfolio.
Mini sizing, Mini pricing, Mini weight burden. I wonder what it\'s called. Image: HP.
So, what can pennywise tech consumers expect from the Mini 110 XP Edition (Windows XP), Mini 110 Mi Edition (Mobile Internet) and the Mini 1101 when it comes to fulfilling their distinctly ultra-mobile and Web-centric needs?
All three platforms offer 10.1-inch widescreen LCD displays (1024 x 576), 92 percent full-size keyboards, and an individual weight of just 2.33 pounds (which is a touch over a kilo). They’ll also come complete with GMA 950 graphics, VGA output, autosync software, Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11b/g) and three-cell or six-cell battery support.
In terms of processing muscle (or lack thereof, depending on your needs) the new Minis all come with a choice between Intel’s stalwart 1.6GHz N270 Atom, or the slightly more capable 1.66GHz N280 Atom.
Separating out the systems to highlight their limited individual nuances, the XP Edition includes 1GB of RAM, 160GBs of HDD or 32GBs of SSD storage, and optional WWAN and a Broadcom Crystal HD Enhanced Video Accelerator, which HP claims will carry smooth 1080p video content (cough).
Meanwhile, the Linux-based Mi Edition offers up to 2GBs of RAM and an ample HDD storage ceiling of 250GBs, while the slightly more business-minded Mini 1101 runs on either XP or Vista.
Prices see the Mini 1101 attached to a base tag of $329 USD, while the Mi Edition will start at $279 USD and the XP Edition will sell for $329 USD. Expect the triple-hit HP arrivals to land in the first week of June.
Although HP arrived somewhat late to the Netbook party, this latest trio of unveilings would suggest its keen to quaff down the budget-priced and seemingly recession-proof Kool-Aid alongside other hardware manufacturers such as Acer, ASUS and Dell.
