Seemingly never straying too far from an unsavoury lawsuit, an antitrust accusation or a business probe of some kind, American software behemoth Microsoft Corp. this week finds itself targeted by Russian state anti-monopoly officials regarding the Windows XP operating system.
Vhy not try Wista instead, comrade? Image: Microsoft.
Apparently the powerhouse Windows creator is guilty of cutting the supply of retail and pre-installed XP software into the country, which has resulted in accusations of monopolisation being levelled at the Redmond-based giant along with the launch of an official investigation.
The Federal Antimonopoly Service of the Russian Federation (FAS) claims Microsoft prematurely stopped distributing the XP platform in favour of its largely unpopular Vista successor, despite the presence of sustained demand from Russian retail outlets and OEM customers.
The Russian investigation, announced by FAS on June 04, is expected to be ongoing and a preliminary ruling on the matter is likely soon after July 24, which is when the case is due to be heard.
Microsoft Corp. has not yet issued an official comment regarding the accusation and investigation.
