It’s not difficult to see why so many Europeans love the PlayStation 3 multimedia console. It has cutting-edge games, it has Blu-ray and DVD movie support, and it has online capabilities… but does it have a music video jukebox? It does now.

More pointedly, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has this week launched VidZone, a new on-demand streaming service that gives PlayStation 3 owners access to thousands of music videos directly through their consoles.
Beyond the initial attraction of a library boasting more than 10,000 videos, which SCEE is keen to point out is more than three weeks of constant playback, VidZone is also completely free and easy to use.
“Select single videos to watch on their own – with the option of rewinding and fast-forwarding – or create your own library of streaming music and make custom playlists for every occasion,” notes Sony in its official release.
“Whether you want a playlist for a living-room workout or a house party – of whether you just want to check out your favourite musician’s dance moves of fretwork – VidZone gives you all the options and puts you in complete control.”
And if that weren’t enough, hardware compatibility between the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable (PSP) means that VidZone users will also be able to create content playlists through Sony’s handheld and have them awaiting playback on their home console.
Supported by major music companies and thousands of independent labels, some of the more notable artists available through VidZone include Britney Spears, Fatboy Slim, Black Eyed Peas, P!nk, Ne-Yo, Tori Amos, Akon, The Pussycat Dolls and Dizzee Rascal.
