If you’re looking to secure the portability of a modern, wafer thin notebook computer, but are not willing to splash the cash for Apple’s beautifully svelte MacBook Air, then perhaps Sony’s new VAIO NW will come close to fitting the bill.

Officially unveiled by Sony Corp. during a press conference on Thursday, the VAIO NW is set to arrive with outward design aesthetics such as a 15.5-inch widescreen LCD display, a ‘thickness’ of just 1.2 inches, textured detailing, and colour flavours of ‘birch’ white, ‘rattan’ silver and ‘walnut’ brown.
And, beyond the appeal of its slender chassis, the VAIO NW comes equipped with a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor (P7350), 4GBs of DDR2 RAM, a hefty 400GBs of HDD data storage, and a 512MB ATI Radeon HD 4750 graphics card.
Other features and functions include Windows Vista Home Premium (64bit), Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11 b/g/n), an integrated Web cam, VGA, HDMI-out, a multi-card reader, three USB slots, a power-saving ‘computer-on screen-off’ button, more than five hours of single-charge operation, and the Xbrite’s display offers a 16:9 aspect and a resolution of 1366 x 768.
EnergyStar 5.0 compliant and sold within packaging made from 98 percent recycled materials, the VAIO NW might not be a true MacBook Air challenger in the strictest sense, but added attraction is achieved thanks to a viable price of $880 USD, which just so happens to include an onboard Blu-ray drive.
According to Sony, the new VAIO NW will hit U.S. retail outlets at the end of June.
