Despite bank account-friendly Netbook devices finding favour with tech consumers in these financially testing times, could Acer’s new line of competitively priced Aspire notebooks tempt a little extra cash from pennywise hardware buyers?

Starting at an attractive $479.99 USD – just a tad more expensive than an upper tier Netbook – the Aspire AS5536 comes with a 15.6-inch LED-backlit display and is powered by a 2.1GHz AMD X2 QL-64 dual-core CPU and an impressive 3GBs of DDR2 RAM. Graphics muscle is provided by the ATI Radeon HD 3200, while storage and connectivity arrive via a 320GB HDD and Draft-n Wi-Fi.
If those specs are not enough to lure folk away from strictly Web-centric and largely underpowered Netbooks, then how about the $599.99 USD Aspire AS7735Z, which has a 17.3-inch LED-backlit screen, a 2.0GHz Intel Pentium T4200 processor, a whopping 4GBs of DDR3, a 250GB HDD, Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics and Draft-n connectivity?
If you’re still grasping onto your purse strings for dear life while insisting that cheap portability, scant features and a lack of processing oomph are the right combination, then the Aspire AS5739G and its starting price of $749.99 USD is likely to send you running for the hills.
For those not perturbed by the slightly more lofty price (which is still cheap when compared to some), the AS5739G has a 15.6-inch LED-backlit display with a resolution of 1366 x 768, a 2.1GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 CPU, 4GBs of DDR3, a 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT130M graphics card, 250GBs of HDD storage and Draft-N.
And the features don’t stop there, you know. All of Acer’s new Aspire models come equipped with the Windows Vista Home Premium operating system, while the 5536 and the 7735 also boast Dolby Home Theatre sound too.
Consider digging a little deeper, dear Netbook lovers, the resulting hardware improvements amount to a veritable leap while the necessary price increase isn’t even a jump.
