Considering that sex sells and the App Store has surpassed a billion downloads well within its first year of service, a degree of content offering suggestive adult themes is perhaps to be expected on Apple’s popular service.

However, the introduction of new parental controls via the iPhone 3.0 software development kit (SDK) has seen Apple seemingly increase its tolerance where lewd additions to its online shelves is concerned now that responsibility lies firmly with developers and parents.
The first such application gleefully freed from the shackles of moderation is ‘Hottest Girls’. Prior to v3.0’s parental controls, the $1.99 USD application provided users with pictures of girls in skimpy bikinis and sexy underwear, but has now upgraded its service to completely remove clothing and any semblance of mildly saucy suggestion.
“We uploaded nude topless pics today,” trumpeted Hottest Girls developer Allen Leung in a Macenstein report . “This is the first app to have nudity.”
Rated at 17+ and providing “Frequent/Intense Sexual Content or Nudity,” the Hottest Girls application falls short of pedalling hardcore pornography, but one can only hope Apple isn’t prepared to look the other way if and when such tasteless applications attempt to find a place on the App Store.
In terms of consumer reaction, several comments on Macenstein suggest a certain idiocy associated with purchasing Hottest Girls, especially given that the iPhone’s Safari Web browser offers an inexhaustible supply of nudity and/or pornography without requiring any form of monetary investment.
Amusingly, another poster voiced their faux disappointment that the application doesn’t take advantage of the iPhone’s touch-screen capabilities by allowing users to physically jiggle the proffered boobs.
