The appeal of Android looks set to expand its reach yet further across the consumer electronics world after the emergence of leaked product images thought to be of Sony Ericsson’s first device equipped with the Google-backed platform.

According to technology news Web site mobile.nu, the above snapshot shows project ‘Rachael’ an XPERIA-branded Sony Ericsson handset supposedly carrying the Open Handset Alliance’s open-source operating system.
While Sony Ericsson has neither confirmed nor denied the image’s credibility, current reports suggest the upcoming phone will include a touch-screen user interface, an extremely generous 4.0-inch WVGA display with a pixel resolution of 800 x 480, and the solid snap-happy performance of an 8.0 mega pixel digital camera.
In terms of network connectivity, the Rachael handset will supposedly run on 7.2Mbit HSDPA (High Speed Data Packet Access), and will also be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset (QSD8250), which is capable of pushing 3D graphics and a clock speed of up to 1GHz.
Other contributing elements include Wi-Fi network access, aGPS navigation, personal multimedia portability via a 3.5mm headphone socket and the possibility of universal power charging thanks to the inclusion of a micro USB slot.
