Described as “a socially supercharged smartphone,” the Surge is being offered on AT&T’s high-speed 3G network and will hit the carrier’s official stores from July 19 for just $79.99 USD, along with a two-year service agreement and a $50 USD mail-in rebate.
Along with being equipped with a plethora of communication methods, including IM, texting, multimedia messages, AT&T Video Share and e-mail, Nokia’s latest handset also offers a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and runs on the popular Symbian S60 operating system.
Other contributory elements include Web browsing capabilities, Flash support for most online destinations in full HTML, and quick online access to popular sites such as clip-sharing service YouTube, micro-blogging phenomenon Twitter, picture haven Flickr, and leading social network Facebook.
“Launching at 79.99 USD with a complete email solution, downloadable applications and full HTML browser with Flash support, Nokia Surge hits the sweet spot between a quick messaging phone and a smartphone because of its low-price and strong feature set,” trumpeted Michael Woodward, vice president at AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets.
Other features and functions include a modest 2.0 mega pixel camera (with 4x digital zoom), AT&T Navigator, AT&T Mobile Music, AT&T Video Share and the pre-installed JuiceCaster application for content sharing through a variety of social networks.
