It’s become common practice these days for videogame publishers and developers to sell special edition bundles of their major software releases, many of which come crammed with extra gift incentives designed to whip up a little more extra consumer interest.
Oh, we see soooo many pervy lawsuits on the horizon. Image: Activision.
However, all past bundles are now officially lame, and any future bundles will have to go the extra mile to impress following news that Activision Blizzard and Infinity Ward are bundling the Prestige Edition of first-person shooter epic Modern Warfare 2 with an authentic pair of night vision goggles. Seriously.
Although the upper-tier Prestige bundle also comes complete with an accompanying hardback Modern Warfare 2 book to add yet further appeal, most gamers are likely to tear straight through it in their eagerness to strap on the fully-functioning goggles – before then promptly dressing head-to-toe in black, drawing all the curtains, and terrorising various members of the family.
Beyond the highly anticipated game itself, which is a sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, other elements jammed in alongside the night vision goggles include a sculpted 'Soap McTavish' head model, a steel presentation case, and a platform-specific download token for the original Call of Duty through either the Xbox Live Arcade or PlayStation Network.
There is currently no proof to support emerging rumours that suggest each copy of Modern Warfare 3 will come complete with a Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor fighter jet, a live load-out of ordnance, fully loaded rotary cannons, and a willing pilot with itchy thumbs.
Modern Warfare 2 will be released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this coming November. It remains to be seen how many Prestige Editions will hit market and, more importantly, how much they will cost.
