Millions of people from India to China were witness this morning to the longest total solar eclipse recorded this century.

The dramatic event could be seen first in eastern India on early Wednesday, then moved east across India, Nepal, Burma, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China and the Pacific.
In some parts of Asia, the eclipse lasted up to 6 minutes and 39 seconds as millions watched in awe...and fear... as traditional Hindu mythology has it that an eclipse is caused by a dragon swallowing the sun.
Chinese news agency Xinhua quoted Zhu Jin, head of the Beijing Astronomical Observatory, as saying though cloudy conditions had hampered the view of the eclipse along the lower stream of Yangtze, the shadow of the moon was visible moving behind the clouds.
Observers had better luck in east China's Zhejiang Province where over 200 astronomers had gathered for the best view.
"The weather is clear enough to observe the complete duration of the solar eclipse here in Anji. The forecast of the time of the eclipse proved to be accurate," said Zhang Hongqi, chief researcher of the National Astronomical Observatories.
