Continuing its attempts at a market turnaround, Internet titan Yahoo has followed the release of its newly revamped home page with the acquisition of photography organisation specialist Xoopit.

Officially announced on Wednesday of this week, Yahoo’s latest purchase is a privately held company that provides the online pioneer with the technology necessary to organise snapshots through its e-mail service, reports the Reuters news agency.
“With the integration of Xoopit’s platform technology and capabilities, the task of sending photos via email will be as easy as it should be and sharing photo albums with friends and family members will also be a cinch,” outlined Yahoo’s Brian Lamkin in a company blog post.
“You’ll be able to share your pictures among a group of friends or family like never before – combining pictures from numerous sources into a single album for a private group to view,” he added.
“And soon your inbox will become an organized photo index as well. Just imagine having a tool that collects all the photos you’ve sent and received over the years into that scrapbook you’ve never had time to assemble.”
To provide an idea of how Xoopit’s technology works in conjunction with Yahoo Mail, the company has posted the following My Photos demo.
Financial details relating to the deal have not been divulged by either party in the acquisition; although technology Web site All Things Digital cites unnamed sources as putting the figure close to $20 million USD.
