The humble Netbook, once the scourge of The Tech Herald thanks to a seemingly never-ending procession of the Web-centric little terrors, has seemingly lost some its press release momentum as of late. Let us set matters right for all concerned, courtesy of the long-awaited ASUS Eee PC 1101HA.
It\'s here! Um, yay? Image: ASUS.
Continuing the hardware trend of blurring the category line separating Netbooks from notebooks, the new Eee PC 1101HA (the first of the Taiwan-based manufacturer’s ‘Seashell’ line) has finally hit U.S. shores sporting a rather generous 11.6-inch WXGA LCD screen and a sexy resolution of 1366 x 768.
Sadly, however, the undeniably sassy display is the 1101HA’s only point of distinction in an otherwise generic Netbook package. Specifically, the ultra-portable device is powered by Intel’s 1.33GHz Z520 processor and supported by 1GB of RAM, GMA 500 integrated graphics, and a 160GB hard drive (HDD).
Factor in Windows XP, the basic 1.3 mega pixel Web camera, Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity, audio in/out, Bluetooth, a trio of USB ports, and the latest Eee PC entrant looks like it might struggle to justify the accompanying $430 USD price tag considering many notebooks with better performance are sitting in and around the same retail bracket for marginally more cash.
Still, it’s nice to see another Eee PC trundle past our jaded eyes on The Tech Herald’s rickety conveyor belt of Netbook apathy. By the way, we can’t wait for Apple to slap down its mystery Tablet and expect us to fork out $800 USD for the privilege.
