Early this morning (Aug 10), Toshiba released an official announcement confirming that it has applied for membership of the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA). And, once accepted into the fold, the company has said it plans to introduce a line of specific products that support Blu-ray performance.
“As a market leader in digital technologies, Toshiba provides a wide range of advanced digital products, such as DVD recorders and players, HDTVs and notebook PCs that support a wide range of storage devices, including hard disk drives (HDD), DVD and SD Cards,” outlined Toshiba.
“In light of recent growth in digital devices supporting the Blu-ray format, combined with market demand from consumers and retailers alike, Toshiba has decided to join the BDA.”
According to Toshiba’s outline where devices are concerned, the tech heavyweight has said freestanding Blu-ray players and also notebook PCs that come with integrated Blu-ray drives should be heading to market before the close of this year.
Although the company has not divulged its Blu-ray plans from a regional standpoint, it said the timing of regional launches is presently under consideration and official announcements will be made in due course.
