The wait is almost over for expectant Apple fans eager to get their mitts on the Cupertino giant’s latest Mac operating system. More pointedly, Apple's upcoming Mac OS X 10.6 (a.k.a. Snow Leopard) will be officially launched on August 28 (this Friday).

While the latest Mac OS is set to arrive as the company’s most substantial upgrade since 2001, Apple is keen to point out that it only requires around half the drive space of previous editions – and will likely free up some 7GBs of space after installation.
Furthermore, and adding yet more appeal for prospective download customers, Snow Leopard will also set new standards in terms of OS pricing thanks to a paltry retail cost of just $29 USD in the United States (approx. 25 GBP in the UK).
“Snow Leopard builds on our most successful operating system ever and we’re happy to get it to users earlier than expected,” commented Bertrand Serlet, senior vice president of software engineering at Apple regarding the software platform’s premature availability.
Arriving well ahead of its scheduled September launch, the Mac OS X 10.6 upgrade promises to deliver 64-bit support, increased speed and improved security as Apple works to enhance overall performance for its user base rather than delivering a raft of new features.
