The touch-screen smartphone, so long a desirable multimedia device priced beyond the comfort zones of many regular consumers, is now set to hit a new retail low as Nokia prepares to unleash its budget 5230 handset.

The new Nokia 5230, which is set to arrive in multiple markets, will occupy pride of place as Nokia’s cheapest touch-screen smartphone, yet its super low price will not be indicative of its distinctly mid-range leanings.
Specifically, in return for some €149 Euros (SIM-free), prospective buyers can expect to receive a handset running the Symbian S60 operating system and equipped with a generous 3.2-inch resistive touch-screen display (640x360), a full QWERTY keyboard and High Speed Data Packet Access (HSDPA) connectivity.
Other contributing features crammed into the attractive candybar chassis include a modest 2.0 mega pixel camera, onboard A-GPS location, Bluetooth 2.0, 70MBs of internal memory (expandable up to 16GBs via a microSD slot), handwriting recognition, a headphone jack and support for Nokia’s extensive Ovi Store.
And, if the asking price is still too rich for your tastes, reports suggest the Nokia 5230 will sell for a mere €15 Euros when coupled with an accompanying fixed-term data contract.
Two versions of the Nokia 5230 (a more expensive variant will include 'Comes with Music') will initially be rolled out in India and Finland, with other regions set to follow soon after.
