While speculation is presently swirling with regard to the possible inclusion of a Spotify application to Facebook, the popular online music streaming service is definitely making its way to Apple’s iconic iPhone handset.

More pointedly, a mobile iteration of Spotify submitted for Apple’s consideration in July of this year has successfully passed through the company’s stringent approvals process and is set to arrive as a free download on the App Store for owners of the iPhone smartphone and the non-telephonic iPod Touch.
While the application’s initial download will be cost free, the associated advantages of a premium Spotify subscription, which lacks revenue-generating and possibly intrusive advertising, will cost users 10 GBP.
The approval of Spotify’s free music library, which arrives as a potential danger to iTunes, may raise a few eyebrows with industry watchers given Apple has been previously accused of purposely denying App Store entry to products likely to compete directly with its own services.
Asked by the BBC to comment on Spotify’s addition to the App Store, company founder Daniel Ek offered that he was “thrilled” by the approval and not in the least bit surprised, adding that the Swedish-based service “had a great dialogue with Apple from day one.”
Spotify, which has been in operation since 2008, presently boasts some six million users across Europe. While not yet released in North America, Ek has said it should be available by the close of this year.
Rumours regarding the arrival of Spotify as a Facebook application have gathered pace since networking rival MySpace swept in and purchased leading music sharing service iLike from under Facebook’s nose.
The two parties are currently engaged in ongoing talks regarding an online partnership.
