Looking to increase the appeal and accessibility of smartphone devices, mobile phone manufacturer Nokia Corp. has unveiled a cheaper, smaller version of its popular but pricey powerhouse N97 handset.
Smaller, sexier... AND cheaper. Image: Nokia.
Cannily named the N97 Mini, Nokia’s latest will provide a focus on social networking services while delivering a smaller 3.2-inch touchscreen display (640x360), a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and a reduced data storage ceiling of 8GBs as opposed to the standard N97’s more expansive 32GBs.
With ‘smaller’ clearly a defining aspect of the new handset, its similarly altered price point of €450 Euro (before taxes and subsidies) accompanies flick-based scrolling, a reduced physical chassis, and includes support for Nokia’s Ovi-branded services and quick access to leading social network Facebook.
A total of 12 grams lighter than the original N97, the new Mini handset measures in at 113 millimetres x 52.5 millimetres x 14.2 millimetres, which makes it a little more palm-friendly than its Nokia stablemate, which comes in at 117.2mm x 55.3mm x 15.9mm.
The N97 Mini is expected to hit retail outlet across Europe this coming October.
