However, given the Mini’s iconic history, that’s clearly not enough for BMW, which is planning to wow drivers everywhere with a newly designed Mini Coupe and an as-yet undisclosed model.
Expected to roll off the production line of BMW’s Cowley facility in Oxford, England, the initial pre-production concept versions of the new Minis will be bathed in the media spotlight during this month’s Frankfurt motor show in Germany, reports the Financial Times.
“I am pleased to announce the Mini Coupe concept car and another new Mini model will both be built at Oxford,” confirmed BMW chief executive Norbert Reithofer in an FT interview.
Beyond the potential for added jobs at Cowley, and the increased exposure for the glamorous vehicle brand, BMW also has plans to have Austria-based carmaker Magna Steyr craft an ambitious SUV version of the Mini to help attract the sports utility crowd.
