The wait is finally over. Much like Sony’s recent announcement of its widely anticipated PlayStation 3 Slim, the consumer electronics heavyweight and its handset partner Ericsson have today surprised pretty much no one by confirming the imminent arrival of the sassy little XPERIA X2 handset.
It\'s here. Let\'s move on. Image: Sony Ericsson.
For those not familiar with Sony Ericsson’s eagerly anticipated follow-up to the original XPERIA handset, the upcoming X2 will by powered by Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system and will sport a 3.2-inch WVGA OLED touchscreen display, a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a core 512MBs of on-board RAM, on-board aGPS navigation, and microSD memory expansion.
Other contributing aspects likely to whet the ravenous appetites of handset whores everywhere include an impressive 8.1 mega pixel camera with auto focus and 16x digital zoom, Wi-Fi, DNLA, integrated accelerometer technology, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Sadly, Sony Ericsson’s official unveiling did not include concrete details regarding regional releases and price points – although tech specialist Gizmodo claims the device will sell for a whopping €700 Euros.
Such information is likely to become clear in the very near future given that the XPERIA X2 is expected at retail before the close of 2009.
