The UK market dominance of Telefonica O2 and Vodafone could well be under threat following news that rival mobile phone operators T-Mobile UK and Orange UK are joining forces to become the nation’s biggest provider.

According to an announcement made by T-Mobile parent company Deutsche Telekom, the two companies are preparing to enter into an equal share partnership that will equate to approximately 37 percent market share covering a massive customer base of 28.4 million mobile phone users.
The deal, which is likely to hand T-Mobile and Orange regional dominance, arrives hot on the heels of a reported $6.5 billion USD (approx. 4.0 billion GBP) takeover bid for T-Mobile UK made by Telefonica’s O2 and Vodafone – the UK’s current number one and two operators.
Once the new partnership is finalised this coming October, O2 and Vodafone will be pushed down the UK pecking order due to their respective market shares of 27 percent and 25 percent.
