While our first reaction upon seeing McLaren’s new MP4-12C was to consider raiding the petty cash jar, we’re not exactly sure its minimal funds will stretch to the asking price of 150,000 GBP. As is, we’ll have to make do with a pack of Kleenex to mop up the puddles of drool while you read on and similarly struggle with envious salivation.

While not the catchiest sounding automotive beast to roll off the glistening supercar production line, the MP4-12C (a.k.a. the P11) arrives as something of a landmark for McLaren – not least that it’s the first ‘proper road car’ the company has created since the iconic F1 was launched way back in 1991.
Furthermore, with the F1’s arrival attached to a price tag leaning perilously close to $1 million USD, company bigwig Ron Dennis has indicated the 200mph MP4-12C will be the first in a range of more consumer-viable high performance vehicles that won’t scare off all-but the richest buyers.
With one thousand of the gull-winged MP4-12Cs expected to sell by 2011, prospective buyers with grand ambitions would be well advised to start saving now. And if 2011 doesn’t leave enough time to scrape together the cash – or plan a foolproof bank raid – then McLaren has also revealed plans to deliver two more supercar entrants in 2015.
Of course, details regarding those future models are presently being kept under wraps, but McLaren has at least indicated they will be aimed at the 300,000 GBP and 60,000 GBP pricing categories – the latter of which is the domain of Porsche’s hugely popular 911.
