Quickly becoming known as The Handset Herald, it is with (somewhat flagging) pleasure that we offer you a glimpse at the week’s umpteenth new smartphone offering, which arrives in the form of the Motorola CLIQ.

In an attempt to avoid being labelled as ‘just another smartphone’, the Motorola CLIQ ticks the boxes of two ‘firsts’ insofar as it’s the first Motorola device to carry MOTOBLUR and the first Motorola to come equipped with the open-source Android operating system (OS).
For those not in-the-know, MOTOBLUR is described as “an innovative solution” that manages and integrates the handset’s communications, ranging from work e-mail through to social network activity.
“Updates to contacts, posts, messages, photos and more are streamed together and synced from sources including Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Gmail, and work and personal e-mail,” explains Motorola.
“MOTOBLUR automatically delivers these updates to the home screen in easy-to-view streams so there is no need to open and close different mobile applications to keep up with the latest content.”
Running on the Google-backed Android operating system, the CLIQ is set to arrive as a 3G-capable handset and will include a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a 3.1-inch HVGA display with full touch-screen capabilities, Wi-Fi connectivity, 2GBs of internal memory (expandable to 32GBs via microSD).
Other features include support for Google’s wealth of mobile services, a 5.0 mega pixel camera with auto focus and video capture (24fps playback), a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a music player pre-loaded with Amazon MP3 store application, Shazam, and iMeem Mobile.
The Motorola CLIQ will be launched in the United States before the close of the year and will be available exclusively on the T-Mobile USA network. Price has not yet been confirmed.
