With Batman: Arkham Asylum having dropped out of the videogame shadows to wow both critics and consumers alike, publishers Warner Bros. Interactive and Eidos Interactive are looking to maintain momentum by unleashing a map pack download for the caped crusader’s acclaimed action adventure.

Arriving as the first of two incoming Arkham Asylum expansions, the ‘Insane Night’ download offers up a pair of fresh challenge maps allowing players to further hone Batman’s free-flowing combat skills and stealthy predatory instincts. And, adding yet more appeal to the game’s longevity, access to Insane Night is completely free.
The Totally Insane map is a new combat-focused challenge room where Batman must fend off wave after wave of attackers in Arkham’s secure records facility; while the exterior Nocturnal Hunter map sees Gotham’s masked protector picking off patrolling foes while avoiding detection.
A second downloadable content (DLC) pack called ‘Prey in the Darkness’ is scheduled for release on September 24 and is likely to deliver a further two maps for budding dark knights – or maniacal Jokers if you happen to be a PlayStation 3 owner who’s taken advantage of the free playable Joker download exclusive to PSN.
With a collated Metacritic score average of 92/100 across 70 reviews (Xbox 360), sales of more than two million units, and parallels being drawn against award-winning science fiction epic BioShock, Batman: Arkham Asylum is already making a strong case for the honour of ‘Game of the Year’.
The Insane Night downloadable expansion pack will be available to game owners equipped with a PC, PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 when it arrives on September 17.
