Carrying the rather ironic moniker of Envy, HP’s new sub-brand of premium PC notebooks arrive as 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook challengers built around luxury and high performance attributes – with the latter model described by HP as “the company’s fastest consumer notebook PC ever.”

Boasting a sassy metal-look aesthetic design and etchings on both its lid and palm rest (only the palm rest on the 13-inch model), the HP Envy notebook comes in two distinct configurations, which are:
The 13-inch model is less than an inch thick, weighs just 3.74lbs, and boasts a class-leading screen brightness of 410 nits along with a colour gamut of 82 percent, which provides rich colour depth that outperforms the standard 45-60 percent seen in other comparable notebooks – according to HP.
In terms of core technical ability, the 13-inch Envy offers up a selection of Intel Core 2 Duo processors, ATI Switchable Graphics technology for instant switching between the performance-loving ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 and an integrated power-preserving Intel graphics solution.
Other aspects of the 13-inch Envy include an optimised VGA Web camera and up to 18 hours of battery life thanks to the optional Slim Fit Extended-Life Notebook battery.
The slightly more oomph-worthy 15-inch Envy comes with a 15.6-inch LED-backlit display, a durable magnesium alloy chassis, a thickness of just one inch, and a physical weight of 5.18lbs.
And, not just providing a more heavyweight physical aspect, the enlarged Envy is also powered by the new and muscular Intel Core i7 processor, up to 16GBs of DDR3 RAM, and 1,066MHz of system memory in four SODIMM memory slots.
With a view to versatility, the 15-inch Envy also allows users to add two SSD drives in a RAID-0 configuration to further push the overall speed of the system while bolstering disk performance.
From a graphics standpoint, prospective buyers can look forward to premium output thanks to the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4830, which is supported by 1GB of dedicated video memory for performance-intensive applications, DirectX 10.1 gaming software and HD video content.
The 15-inch Envy also comes complete with a Nightvision VGA Web camera, full versions of Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 and Corel VideoStudio Pro X2 for the creation of photographic and video content, and the optional Slim Fit Extended-Life Notebook Battery for up to seven hours of operation.
Due to hit U.S. retail outlets on October 18, the 13-inch Envy will have a starting price of $1,699 USD, while the 15-inch model will start at $1,799 USD.
