When it comes to this week’s near-constant rollout of new computing devices, there’s evidently just no stopping Hewlett-Packard (HP). Specifically, adding to its steady procession of notebooks, HP has turned the spotlight towards its newly announced touch-capable DreamScreen portable entertainment device.

Described as “a companion to the PC,” the DreamScreen offers users easy access to social media and the Web alongside the convenience of wired and wireless connectivity in order to bring photo, music and video content to a host of compatible home-networked platforms.
“Constant, always-on access to friends, information and entertainment is a common expectation today,” explained Satjiv S. Chahil, senior vice president of worldwide marketing for HP’s Personal Systems Group. “With HP DreamScreen, social media, web services and digital entertainment can be enjoyed in more areas of the home.”
Available in physical sizing variants of 10.2 inches and 13.3 inches, the piano black DreamScreen and its flush, widescreen display (800 x 480) is being put forth by HP as the perfect media companion for the home, whether that be positioned on the nightstand, dresser, kitchen counter or coffee table.
On-board data storage is shouldered by 2GBs of internal memory, while exterior media can be either streamed to the DreamScreen from a networked PC or loaded directly by USB or through most types of flash-based memory cards.
Other contributing features include 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity, high-fidelity speakers, a headphone socket, a discrete remote control unit, quick icon-based access to Facebook, and support for SnapFish, HP SmartRadio, and online music streaming service Pandora.
The 10.2-inch DreamScreen 100 is available online for $249 USD, while walk-in retailers will begin selling the device on October 11. The 13.3-inch DreamScreen 130 will arrive before the close of Q3 attached to a price of $299 USD.
