Closing the quality and pricing gap between standard point-and-shoot and digital single lens reflex (DSLR) cameras, imaging specialist Pentax has this week introduced its new and affordable K-x,
Bridging the gap. Image: Pentax.
According to Pentax, the feature-rich K-x is compact, lightweight, easy to use, and redefines the entry-level SLR category thanks to a starting price of just $649 USD for the camera body and a DA L 18-55mm lens. Coupled with its tempting price point, the K-x also boasts high-end capabilities including Live View and HD Video.
Core technical attributes crammed into the Pentax K-x include the Pentax Prime II processing engine, a 12.4 mega pixel CMOS sensor, a large 2.7-inch LCD screen, widescreen high-definition video capture (720p) at 24fps when using a Pentax 35mm lens, a maximum shutter speed of 1/6000, and a fast 4.7fps capture speed.
Other photographic features include Shake Reduction, Image Stabilisation, Face Detection, Auto Focus (for up to 16 faces), Creative Processing, Filter Modes, Scene Modes, Auto Picture and True High Dynamic Range.
Also striking out from the more conventional black body colour slapped on most DSLRs, the Pentax K-x will be available in colour choices of black, white, navy and red.
The black and white models are available for online pre-order now, while limited edition red and navy models will be revealed in the coming weeks. The Pentax K-x will begin shipping this coming October.
