Evidently not content with merely being an online seller of third-party consumer electronics, retail giant Amazon has this week announced it’s expanding its business by adding a range of self-branded products to its virtual shelves.

According to Amazon, the newly unveiled AmazonBasics line is a private-label collection aimed squarely at customers keen on securing consumer electronic “basics” that combine quality and low prices for an overall focus on value.
“We drew on our history of developing other private-label brands and combined that with our mission to give customers the ultimate in selection and value,” commented Paul Ryder, vice president of Consumer Electronics for Amazon.com. “AmazonBasics is the result.”
However, despite Amazon’s clear enthusiasm, the retailer’s ambitions for its Basics line appear to be quite limited at this time, thanks to an assortment of private-label blank DVD discs, cables and accessories that are only available in the United States.
Amazon has said it plans to introduce the AmazonBasics range onto international sites in the coming months.
