With the Amazon Kindle and Sony Reader making significant headway in popularising electronic readers, it would appear progressively more device manufacturers are keen to jump on the eBook bandwagon.

Revealed in New York this Wednesday by iRex Technologies, the latest such host platform will offer electronic book lovers a generous 8.1-inch e-paper display with touch-screen functionality (through a magnetic resonance stylus), 2GBs of expandable on-board storage for up to 1,500 books, and access to downloadable digital content through the Barnes & Noble digital bookstore.
According to iRex Technologies CEO and founder Hans Brons, the company’s decision not to enable finger-based navigation by adding a transparent touch layer to the display will provide users with an enhanced level of brightness not available on rival platforms.
The iRex DR 800SG electronic book reader will also include a Qualcomm 3G wireless adapter, Verizon Wireless network connectivity, content imports via wireless and wired PC linking, a mini-USB port, and support for various open and DRM-based eBook formats (including ePub).
Svelte and simplistic in design and weighing a respectable 10 ounces, the iRex DR 800SG will come attached to a price tag of $399 USD and is expected to hit Best Buy retail shelves at the end of September.
