If you’re eager to jump aboard the smartphone bandwagon but perhaps are not immediately enamoured by the price point or accompanying image of BlackBerry handsets or even Apple’s iconic iPhone, then perhaps the Palm Pre is just what you need.

More pointedly, American retail titan Walmart is offering up Palm’s critically applauded platform for a tantalising $79 USD. No joke here, budding smartphone buyer, if you accept a mandatory two-year service contract, then the measly-priced phone is all yours.
Offered up on the high-speed Sprint network, the Palm Pre smartphone comes equipped with a 3.1-inch display (320x480), touchscreen functionality, a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard and Palm’s proprietary webOS mobile operating system.
“[The Palm Pre] is designed to have the natural feel of a small device in your hand with all the capabilities of a big, bulky, laptop like device,” outlines Walmart’s advert.
“And, with all the talk of the Palm webOS, what is it? Well this is the first mobile platform which brings your information from the many places it resides, on your phone, at your work, or on the web, into one simple, integrated view.”
Other features crammed into the Pre smartphone include 8GBs of internal storage, online cloud computing, 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, an integrated Web browser, built-in GPS, and a 3.0 mega pixel camera.
