Not that Apple Inc. really needs increased time in the spotlight, but that’s exactly what the Cupertino-based computer and gadgetry giant got this week after cleaning up at this year’s ME Awards ceremony in London.

The annual backslapping industry bash, which rewards innovation and creativity in the mobile sector, saw Apple win the award for Best Handset Company, thanks to the popularity and acclaim gathered by its iPhone and iPod Touch devices, while the company also secured the award for Best App Store.
“The ME Awards event is a chance for the mobile content business to celebrate its amazing progress into the mainstream,” enthused Tim Green, executive editor of Mobile Entertainment magazine.
“And with the whole world obsessed with apps and widgets, it really feels like the industry is at the centre of things,” he added. “Congratulations to all the winners.”
Other notable winners on the night include the likes of EA Mobile, which secured the gong for Best Games Publisher, Universal Music, which took Best Music Label, the British Broadcasting Corporation, which was awarded the honour of Best Video Company, and Vodafone, which took Best Operator.
Perhaps the biggest round of applause of the night was reserved for Neeraj Roy, who became the fourth winner of the Outstanding Contribution to Mobile Entertainment award in recognition of building India’s biggest content company, and for his energy in promoting the mobile industry all across the globe.
