Looking not unlike the bastard child of an impromptu reach-around between an Xbox 360 and a Nintendo Wii, budget computer specialist ASUS is looking to further tempt pennywise consumers with its new – and really rather sassy – EeeBox EB1501 Nettop.
We. Want. One (or two). Image: ASUS.
Indeed, if you happen to be in the market for a replacement desktop that takes up minimal space and certainly won’t break the bank, then the fresh-faced inclusion of a DVD-RW optical drive and the Windows 7 operating system makes the revamped €380 Euro Nettop a viable low-priced hardware solution for home users.
Optical drive and Windows 7 aside, the newest entrant to the EeeBox product line comes with a dual-core Intel Atom processor (N330), 2GBs of expandable RAM (up to 4GBs), 250GBs of HDD data storage, and graphics muscle courtesy of NVIDIA’s Ion technology.
Other contributing aspects include connectivity via 802.11n Wi-Fi and Gigabit Ethernet, four USB 2.0 ports, an eSATA connection (for external HDDs), a microSD card reader, and 5.1 audio via S/PDIF.
Given that global recession is still holding firm, frugal tech consumers should expect to have their retail resolve thoroughly tested when the EeeBox EB1501 Nettop arrives on October 22, which, unsurprisingly, is when Microsoft will unleash Windows 7.
