Given the rather lacklustre reception that met Windows Vista, it’s perhaps hard to envisage that PC users are on the cusp of a retail stampede ahead of the arrival of Windows 7 on October 22. That being said, if you’re one of the few who simply cannot wait for Microsoft’s new operating system (OS), then eBay has just what you need.

More pointedly, this past weekend saw the Ultimate edition of Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 7 platform leaked onto the prominent online auction service attached to a price tag of $167.50 USD. And, if that price fails to loosen your pocketbook, then you can always consider the Professional edition, which hit the site for $132.50 USD.
With various versions of the OS popping up on eBay well ahead of the official release, bargains are there to be had for those willing to take the associated risk of buying early (and receiving potentially dodgy software).
Moreover, authentic Windows 7 packages come with authentic Windows 7 prices – namely $319 USD for the Ultimate edition, $299 USD for the Professional edition, and $199 USD for Windows 7 Home Premium. Vista and XP upgrade versions of Ultimate, Professional and Home Premium will cost $219 USD, $199 USD and $119 USD respectively.
Regardless of authenticity, or lack thereof, expect Microsoft’s legal team to move quickly to squeeze out any eBay sellers hawking its OS for sexy pre-release prices.
Also, anyone swift enough to snap up the platform before Microsoft acts is likely to face a sizeable stumbling block when required to register their ‘product’ for ongoing support.
