While we here at The Tech Herald would never doubt the global power and appeal of YouTube, site founder Chad Hurley has this week moved to reinforce the video-sharing service’s absolute market dominance.
Huge. Surprised? No, we weren\'t either. Image: Google/YouTube.
More pointedly, a post added to Hurley’s personal blog claims YouTube’s seemingly unstoppable traffic momentum has grown to the point where the site regularly receives in excess of a billion hits every day.
Perhaps somewhat unsurprisingly, Hurley’s bout of sudden chest beating comes about as YouTube this week celebrates three years of operation after its controversial $1.65 billion USD acquisition by California-based search titan Google Inc.
And so what of the future for YouTube and its relentless traffic flow?
According to an official YouTube blog post, the hugely popular service is only likely to get bigger and better – as will its user base – thanks to enhanced video quality, increased content variety, and the addition of television shows and full-length movies.
Not that it matters in the grand scheme of things, but YouTube’s current hit rate breaks down into 11,574 hits per second, 694,444 per minute and a whopping 41,666,667 hits every hour (courtesy of mashable).
