With FIFA 10 amazingly well received by consumers and already crowned football videogame of the year by the majority of critics, third-party publisher Electronic Arts (EA) appears keen to expand and solidify the domination of its latest sporting heavyweight.

More pointedly, with Konami’s longstanding genre rival Pro Evolution 2010 not due to hit stores until October 23 – and already failing to find favour in review circles – EA has announced the beta launch of new Twitter haven and online stat-tracking Web site FIFA Earth.
While clearly existing as a chest-beating showcase EA can use to drive home the popularity of FIFA 10, the online tracker enables gamers to peruse a whole host of statistics that pertain to both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version of the officially licensed footballing bonanza.
According to the site, which collates all manner of usage data connected to individual players and regional performance, Oman currently offers up the world’s best online players (Peru is the overall leader), while the total number of matches played since the title arrived at retail presently stands at some 33 million and counting.
“Find the number of people playing FIFA 10, the number of wins, losses and draws. Switch to find out how your team played yesterday, last week and which team is the best in the world,” encourages EA on the site’s main page. “Turn your wins into the difference that leads your squad to the top of the rankings.”
In terms of most selected teams, it will surprise no one to learn that most gamers opt for the easy glitz of Manchester United, followed by big-spenders such as moneybags Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Chelsea. Arsene Wenger’s continuing work in progress – or Arsenal as they’re sometimes known – round out the top-five team selections.
