The wait is almost over for budding galactic saviours everywhere after third-party videogame publisher Electronic Arts (EA) this week officially dated the arrival of its role-playing epic Mass Effect 2.

Set for launch on both the Microsoft Xbox 360 game console and Games for Windows, developer BioWare’s eagerly anticipated sci-fi RPG will blast onto retail shelves in the United States on January 26 of 2010. European territories will receive the game on January 29.
In order to further drum up interest for the game, EA has also announced a selection of pre-order incentives. Specifically, those who place a pre-order at leading retail outlet GameStop will instantly receive the in-game advantages of Terminus Armour and the M-490 Blackstorm Heavy Weapon as soon as they boot the game disc.
Adding yet more shine to the offer, GameStop customers willing to stump up for a pre-order will also have access to a larger arsenal of heavy weaponry than those gamers who purchase Mass Effect 2 after its official launch.
Not just limited to the shelves of GameStop, pre-orders of the game placed at other retail outlets will be met with access to the stat-boosting Inferno Armour.
