“EMI Music and EMI Music Publishing have collaborated with us to create a mutually sustainable deal which represents the future of digital music,” enthused Grooveshark CEO Sam Tarantino in an official statement.
“We will continue to deliver the best music service on the Internet to our users, and we will expand our [content] capacity to strengthen fan-to-artist connections through out technology,” he added.
For those not in-the-know regarding Grooveshark, the music-streaming platform provides its user base with free ad-supported music content without having to commit to registration or download a specific slice of client software. More demanding users can stream content devoid of advertising in return for a mere $3.00 USD per month.
Grooveshark presently caters to around 400,000 people internationally, streams some 50 to 60 million song tracks every month, and is increasing its user traction by about two to three percent every day.
The content licensing deal arrives following a recent legal settlement between Grooveshark and EMI regarding accusations made by the music heavyweight that the streaming service was guilty of copyright infringement.
