As ‘Game of the Year’ whispers begin to gather momentum regarding the quality software releases of the last 12 months, the 27th annual Golden Joysticks have this weekend seen Bethesda Softworks’ sprawling RPG epic Fallout 3 scooping the event’s most coveted gong.

While Fallout 3 secured the Ultimate Game of the Year award, it was not the only game bathed in the spotlight of acclaim.
Moreover, Activision’s longstanding Call of Duty series was duly rewarded as Call of Duty: World at War scored a double by taking Multiplayer Game of the Year and Nintendo Game of the Year, while hugely anticipated Modern Warfare 2 took the One to Watch award.
In other categories, Activision’s Guitar Hero: World Tour was given the Soundtrack of the Year award, Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars took Handheld Game of the Year, and LittleBigPlanet’s ongoing online popularity and community-based expansion saw it rewarded as Family Game of the Year.
Unsurprisingly – not least given its presence on the night – third-party publishing giant Activision/Blizzard was honoured as Publisher of the Year.
