Marking the latest round of cuts attributed to Microsoft’s continuing internal restructuring, the heavyweight American software giant has this week culled a further 800 members of staff from its global workforce.

“Earlier this year, we announced that in order to reduce costs, increase efficiency and prioritize our focus areas, we would eliminate approximately 5,000 positions by June 2010,” outlined Microsoft in a statement released on Wednesday.
“Today, we are eliminating around 800 [more] positions spread across multiple businesses and locations and have completed our reduction plan sooner than we had anticipated 11 months ago,” the Redmond-based outfit added.
While Microsoft was keen to point out that it continues to hire in priority areas, the company also warned that additional “headcount adjustments” could yet be required as the upper echelons continue to closely manage the overall direction of the business.
Between January and October of 2009, Microsoft has terminated a staggering 91,005 international employees – which represents the largest cull ever carried out by the software specialist.
