Moreover, having already been awarded 40/40 by highly respected review outlet Famitsu, the PlayStation 3 edition of the game has sold some 135,242 units in its first week of sale, which resulted in the eponymous gun-toting and blade-slashing Bayonetta easily securing top spot on the Japanese chart.
Interestingly, the Xbox 360 release of the game managed to nab seventh place on the chart with 65,325 unit sales – and despite the relatively poor attachment rate associated with Microsoft’s second-generation home console.
Other popular performers on the chart, according to figures offered up by Media Create, include Final Fantasy Gaiden: Four Warriors of Light, which sold 114,714 units for second place, and Tekken 6, which shifted 103,105 units to enter the chart in third.
The top five games on the Japanese charts are rounded out by Persona 3 Portable in fourth, which sold 94,287 units, and the persistently popular Pokemon Heartgold/Soulsilver, which continues to draw plenty of custom thanks to sales of 87,594 units.
For those gamers in the U.S. eager to sample the delights of Bayonetta, the bespectacled heroine will be making her charge for even more glory on January 05, while European gamers will be able to get in on the action on January 08.
