According to heavyweight videogame publisher Activision Blizzard, tomorrow’s retail release of eagerly anticipated all-action sequel Modern Warfare 2 will result in the biggest ever software launch the industry has ever seen.

And, with already pulsing media and consumer interest suitably piqued by recently leaked gameplay involving the contentious slaughter of civilians during a terrorist attack on a Russian airport, the third-party publisher’s confidence may not be without merit.
Moreover, if analyst expectations are anywhere near accurate, Modern Warfare 2 could be flying off shelves at a record-breaking rate when walk-in stores and online retailers begin officially selling the Infinity Ward-developed first-person shooter on Tuesday, November 10.
One such analyst – Eric Handler of MKM Partners – expects some five million copies of the game to sell within 24 hours of its simultaneous arrival on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Games for Windows.
Related predictions also suggest the game will have shifted up to eight million copies within the first week of sale and will be approaching a staggering 13 million by the close of 2009.
Excited gamers will begin Modern Warfare 2’s historic march to victory at more than 10,000 midnight launch events being held across the United States by leading game-specific and general retail chains such as GameStop and Best Buy.
An initial Telegraph review of Modern Warfare 2 has awarded the game with a perfect score, applauding it as "an unmatched shooter experience" that offers "a compelling story mode, a slick package of mini missions, and a multiplayer which is pretty much unparalleled in depth."
